# 04 · Physical historical reconstruction

## Purpose

Make the concealed advanced world compatible with real bodies, history, and consequences.

This packet supports the existing Story Completion Workflow. The author accepted the result below on September 6. The original alternatives remain preserved as development history. Central synthesis: Astra, reviewed for integration on September 5.

## Accepted result

The reconstruction creates a customized version of history drawn from the larger humanity. It faithfully uses major technological transitions, a Great War period, and public characters or roles based on people who actually existed in that civilization. The colonization process may alter, combine, sequence, or adapt those events and roles when doing so makes training, containment, Luminai development, or planetary sustainability more effective.

The reconstruction preserves historical information and recognizable pressures without requiring a literal replay. It creates the conditions and public roles through which history can be explored, while the people inside retain real agency and can cause the reconstructed history to diverge. Earth remains a development example rather than an entity imported into final story canon.

## Confirmed facts and current working constraints

- The planet is physically real; its societies are interactive, not disposable simulations.
- Reconstruction draws on distant past, with ordinary era-coherent visible life.

These constraints inherit their source status. A working physical model, timing estimate, or accepted macro constraint does not establish every implementation detail.

## Unresolved gaps and contradictions

- Exact fidelity and alteration authority, population origins, manufactured scarcity, prohibited reenacted harms and rescue boundaries. The customized-history and participant-divergence model is now established.

## Prerequisite decisions

Modules: 01, 02. Read their accepted results before closing this gate. Open prerequisites can be explored provisionally, but do not mark dependent choices final. Module numbers are topic IDs; use the dependency order in the workshop index.

## Central author gate

> What does reconstruction reproduce faithfully, and what is allowed or required to change? **AUTHOR-ACCEPTED 2026-09-06.**

Ask this question alone during actual use. Do not ask every follow-up at once.

## Possibilities and tradeoffs

### 1. Historical starting conditions, open subsequent history

**PROPOSED:** Reproduce institutions, material constraints and initial pressures, then let people generate history. Strong agency; exact familiar events cannot be guaranteed.

### 2. Selected regional reconstructions in a continuous world

**PROPOSED:** Different zones test different periods while sharing real logistics and consequences. Rich environment ladder; transitions and knowledge leakage need credible boundaries.

### 3. A single society with accelerated surface development

**PROPOSED:** Supports Great War through startup-era change and inherited records. Strong causal continuity; acceleration must not make families or technology arbitrary.

### 4. Historical constraints beneath an explicit safety substrate

**PROPOSED:** Advanced infrastructure preserves bodies and basic rights while limiting visible affordances. Helps legitimacy; the story must show costly permitted harm without claiming catastrophe was harmless.

## Targeted follow-up questions

- Who is native to the reconstructed society, and can they decline its continuation?
- Which scarcity is physical and which administratively imposed?
- Which historical cruelty must never be reenacted merely for fidelity?

## Scene test

**Non-canon situation:** A seemingly mundane failure exposes a hidden grid intervention, saving a person while contradicting the era’s official account.

Record what each person wants, can know, can refuse, and can actually change. Name the observable difference between the selected alternatives.

## Adversarial questions

- If leaders can manufacture abundance and prevent injury, why preserve this specific deprivation or danger?
- Which established constraint would this answer break, and what evidence would reveal that break before the payoff?

## Completion checklist

- [x] Answer the central question in the author's own words.
- [x] Identify the chosen possibility, a modified combination, or a different answer; explain rejected tradeoffs.
- [x] Resolve prerequisites 01 and 02.
- [x] Run the scene test above and state the consequence for the people involved.
- [x] Answer the adversarial challenge without granting unexplained knowledge or authority.
- [x] Record what remains working, proposed, or unresolved.
- [x] Obtain explicit author acceptance before updating canon or workflow progress.
- [x] Trace the accepted answer through the affected notes and rebuild both projections.

## Answer and decision record

```text
Module: 04 · Physical historical reconstruction
Gate: What does reconstruction reproduce faithfully, and what is allowed or required to change?
State: AUTHOR-ACCEPTED
Author answer (verbatim): preserved in the linked session record
Exact restatement: accepted result above
Selected option or new answer: historical anchors and public roles customized for the effectiveness of the colonization process
Why this tradeoff: real historical information supplies pressure and meaning while adaptation supports training, containment, bonding and sustainability
Rejected alternatives and reasons: literal replay would erase the process's ability to adapt and the participants' ability to change history
Prerequisites resolved / deferred: Modules 01 and 02 resolved
Scene test: a participant rejects the expected choice of a historically based role and the process preserves the divergence
Adversarial result: historical utility does not justify every past harm; alteration and stopping rules remain necessary
Remaining uncertainty: fidelity, composites, alteration authority, prohibited harms, participant knowledge and population rights
Explicit acceptance wording and date: “Yes” — 2026-09-06
Workflow task and macro-depth effect: supporting workshop Module 04 accepted; SC-010 remains active and unchanged
