Recurrence
The protagonist discovers the same behavioral signature across identities separated by decades or centuries. The investigation moves through five reinterpretations:
- Historical anomaly.
- Behavioral recurrence.
- Administrative anomaly.
- Institutional discovery.
- Moral inversion: history may record a sentence as an admirable public life.
Not every admired person is contained. Mixed cases preserve discernment and prevent the discovery from collapsing into universal cynicism.
The recurrence ladder can follow the planet's stages: an early defeated bloc recurs into the next stage's public story, then later defeated movements become additional contained lineages. This creates a political web of cooperation, betrayal, and inherited ideology rather than one timeless conspiracy.
Each invented era should have its own political character—such as hereditary merchant houses, a guild-dominated maritime republic, a mountain clan confederation, a theocratic city-state, or a technocratic federation—without importing real nations or historical cast.
