Names that mean different things

The new development program spans thousands of years. That does not give every stage the same duration or establish a complete calendar.
One experienced extension, several possible physical parts
The developing research model combines a personal neural interface, reciprocal learning, individualized computation, and the environment's energy, sensors, communication, and computers.
With experience, an available artificial information channel might feel increasingly natural. Neuroplasticity helps explain learning that channel. It does not explain how an otherwise undetectable signal enters the nervous system.
The architecture decision is still open
An existing working note proposes an implant-free channel learned from infancy. The newer brief explores technologies that often require implanted or body-level interfaces. These are different implementation paths. No silent hardware upgrade has been approved.
Possible tradeoffs include conspicuous equipment versus greater fictional extrapolation; stable local capability versus dependence on the grid; richer feedback versus privacy, fatigue, and calibration costs.
Capability and authority
The accepted macro direction keeps consequential choices under human authorization. A Luminai may observe, model, advise, and perform bounded processing outside conscious attention. That does not grant unlimited authority over devices or other people.
More integration can amplify poor learning as well as useful learning. Good outcomes also require values, independent evidence, correction, accountability, and safeguards.
Proving an advantage without creating a ruling class
The successor bond is intended to create a substantial general capability advantage. The process tests that claim where contained criminals begin with major advantages of their own. Success has to demonstrate both what the bonded pair can do and whether it can contain adaptive criminal behavior more effectively.
Passing that test does not grant unrestricted power. The older leaders must manage deployment, permissions, access, placement, and social integration so successor-bonded people can live and work with people who do not have the new bond. Less-integrated people must remain able to inspect, challenge, refuse, and participate in consequential decisions.
The exact capability set, normalization mechanisms, rollout order, and safeguards remain open. A deeper bond can strengthen destructive learning too, so architecture alone cannot prove good judgment.
Learned across years, not installed in a moment
Sylvan and the Luminai develop the deeper bond through years of repeated attacks across changing environments. The advanced systems do not make the danger disappear. They help the pair observe patterns, adapt, reduce later harm, and survive.
Each environment teaches something different. Earlier learning carries forward, but no defense solves every later problem. The exact lessons, personal losses, transition rules, and safety limits remain open.
Capability cannot erase the assignment
While participants remain in the process, neither they nor their Luminai can use advanced access to abandon, skip, replace, or rewrite an assigned environment. The environment's rules remain binding until valid completion.
A voluntary heir may still leave the entire process and surrender the unfinished self-made result. What the heir cannot do is escape only the difficult environment while keeping the benefits of continued participation. Completion, appeals, emergencies, and the separate release rules for convicted participants still need definition.
Spoilers: two misunderstandings
Konrad believes his experienced daemon can defeat Samuel where the leaders intend Sylvan's new Luminai to succeed. His confidence is part of his ideology; it is not proof that all earlier systems are defective.
An earlier ending in which Samuel literally tried to steal Sylvan's Luminai has been superseded. Questions about whether learned adaptation transfers, and how sensors, credentials, permissions, trust, or infrastructure can be attacked, remain useful technical development problems rather than the selected final maneuver.
