14 · George’s necessary role

Purpose

Resolve overlap with Konrad by assigning George a distinct causal and emotional function.

This packet supports the existing Story Completion Workflow. Its central gate was author-accepted on September 6. It does not answer SC-010 Question 7 or advance that checklist. Central synthesis: Astra, reviewed for integration on September 5.

Accepted result

George can participate directly on Sylvan's newer colonization planet, which Samuel cannot do. Samuel, Konrad, and the older contained criminals from Samuel's generation remain physically contained on a previous colonization planet. George is therefore Samuel's living operational bridge into Sylvan and Orzai's environment. The communication architecture, permissions, and George's independent choices remain unresolved.

Confirmed facts and current working constraints

• George is weaponized and intended to absorb his father’s defeat.
• The new Samuel–Konrad frame controls Book One; George remains subordinate pending reconciliation.

These constraints inherit their source status. A working physical model, timing estimate, or accepted macro constraint does not establish every implementation detail.

What can George’s decisions reveal or change that neither Konrad nor a generic proxy can?

AUTHOR-ACCEPTED: George can act directly on the new planet while Samuel and the older contained generation cannot physically enter it.

Possibilities and tradeoffs

1. Active command witness who can refuse the final order

PROPOSED: His firsthand connection to Samuel exposes live maintenance. Strong present agency; corroboration is needed so one testimony does not solve everything.

2. Scapegoat whose protection tests Sylvan’s restraint

PROPOSED: Samuel tries to make Sylvan dispose of him. Gives Sylvan a costly human choice; avoid making George entirely Sylvan’s dependent or clearing his conduct.

3. Earlier-model recovery counterexample

PROPOSED: George and his older bond confront corrupted premises, showing old technology need not remain evil. Strengthens moral/technical distinction; exact recovery cannot be effortless.

4. Parallel partial awakening in a limited interlude

PROPOSED: George’s restricted viewpoint makes Samuel’s servicing of reality visible while Konrad stays isolated. Economical suspense; risks another exposition thread unless George acts on what he learns.

Targeted follow-up questions

• What evidence can only George supply, or what decision can only he make?
• What does refusal cost him?
• Which crimes remain his after command responsibility is proven?

Scene test

Non-canon situation: George receives an instruction justified by a fresh sign; instead of executing it, he preserves the original request and asks a question Samuel cannot answer consistently.

Record what each person wants, can know, can refuse, and can actually change. Name the observable difference between the selected alternatives.

Adversarial questions

• If George were removed, would Book One’s plot or moral result change? If only exposition disappears, his role is not yet necessary.
• Which established constraint would this answer break, and what evidence would reveal that break before the payoff?
